Mauritius Island

History

The Mauritius Island was already known Arabs in the Xth century. Discovered in 1505 by the Portuguese sailor(browser), Pedro Mascarenas, her was successively occupied by the Dutch people ( 1598-1710 ), French ( 1715-1810 ) and was given up in England in 1814 by the Treaty of Paris. 

Maurice reached the independence on March 12th, 1968 and the republic was proclaimed on March 12th, 1992. 

Maurice is a parliamentary democracy partially traced on the British mode. The parliament is established(constituted) by 62 members of parliament elected every 5 years in the universal suffrage. The president is the Head of State but all the constitutional powers are exercised by Prime Minister and his office.

The surface of the Mauritius Island, on about 1865 km2 of which 330km of coast almost completely surrounded with cliffs
